My Cozy Christmas Outfit + Picking Up Our Tree!

Hellooo friends. It’s official! Christmas is only three sleeps away, or two for me, since Martin and I celebrate on the 24th. Oh my gosh, how did that happen?! I know I say it all the time, but this year truly flew by. Does anyone have big goals for 2026? I’m continuing to focus on my health and managing my chronic illness, as well as finally finishing our home - mainly the primary and second bedroom. I’ve just been so indecisive lately. Ugh! As for today’s outfit... it’s quick, easy, and ultra-cozy. I usually wear some version of this on the weekends, but lately, I’ve swapped my jeans for joggers and my tall black Hunter boots. I’m loving that version too! For the holidays this year, I’m not planning on getting too dressed up. What about you? Are you going glam or staying cozy?
For Christmas Eve, I plan on wearing a red midi skirt and a simple top. Then, for when my parents come over to visit on the 25th, I’m sticking with a black scoop-neck tee, a denim mini, black tights, and my tall leather boots. My chronic health issues have left me extra tired these past few weeks, so I’m keeping things as simple as possible. Speaking of simple... we decided to forgo the tree farm this year (because, yup, I was exhausted!) and grabbed a fresh-cut tree from Rona instead. It was so nice and fast, and I think it might be our new tradition! We’re considering a faux tree for next year, though I’m torn because I love the real ones so much. Are you guys, team real or team faux?
And of course, I couldn't skip sharing photos from our annual Xmas brunch with friends! 15+ years and going strong! We had such a lovely day, and I’m so glad we made it happen. With that, the blog will be quiet over the next couple of weeks while I take some time to enjoy the holidays. Thank you all so much for reading, and for the incredible support with the relaunch of Girl & Closet. It’s truly a labor of love, and it feels so good to be back in this space, dipping my toe into personal style and photography again. I’m so thankful you’re here, and I can’t wait to see you in 2026! xx

PS - sorry I haven't been linking as many of my clothing items. But lately, everything is thrifted. But if I have a link... I'll always include it!

NEW HAIR!!! Plus A Coffee Date With My Love!

I'm back, and so are my bangs! Haha! I'm honestly so excited, though. If you've followed for a while, then you know I had bangs in the early days of G&C. I've been debating bringing them back for some time, and I'm so glad I took the leap! I really can't explain it, but there's just something about bangs. I love 'em! They always add a little something fun to my outfits, and they're just a bit daring in the best possible way. And clearly, you guys love bangs too, because when I tell you my DMs were flooded, they were flooded. How fun hearing from you guys! I absolutely felt reassured I made the right choice. Yay! Team Bangs for life. Ha! Who's with me?
For today's post, I'm keeping things nice and laid back, and more lifestyle focused. It's always fun to mix it up and take a break from the big photo shoots. Although, don't worry - dedicated outfit posts aren't going anywhere! ;) I have so many planned and styled for after the New Year. As for our day, this is honestly my idea of the perfect afternoon: head out for coffee, then go vintage shopping / thrifting, and end the afternoon off with a mocktail and pizza! So. Much. Fun! And speaking of thrifting? I'm so in love with the coat I'm wearing in this post. She's vintage Club Monaco, 100% wool, and such an amazing addition to my wardrobe. I also finally bought tall boots in black, and I'm so happy I did. Definitely my favourite thing about having a blog... I'm always in the mood to shop and style new outfits. Not the worst problem to have!
Welp, that's about it, friends. It's been a week! We're busy getting Christmas organized and happening, and I've had a doozy of a week with my health. My MCAS has been flaring up like crazy and I've been taking time to rest and stay in bed. The relaxing is lovely, but when you feel like death... definitely not so lovely. Anyway, I'll see you next week with another style / lifestyle post. Though that one will be much more Christmas-themed, and then I'll be off for the holidays with my honey-boo. The blog will be pretty quiet during that time as I go into holiday hibernation mode. Ah, bliss! I'm ready to kick up my feet and do a whole lot of nothing, tbh. Hallmark movies have been bookmarked, and gluten free cookies have been ordered. After autumn, this just might be my favourite time of year! xo

Cat Mom Tee + A Casual OOTD For Errands

Hello friends, I can't believe we're in the second week of December. Is it just me, or did this year absolutely fly by? What the heck! Also, forgot to mention, I updated my blog banner. Bonus points if you recognize it! It was my OG Girl & Closet banner from back in the day, designed by Tieka of Selective Potential and I couldn't resist uploading it. I absolutely love it and feel like it suits my vintage / thrifted vibe so much. How's your December going so far? We're hosting our annual Xmas brunch this weekend. In fact it's been a tradition for yearsss. Here we all are in 2011 enjoying said brunch. How wild is that?!
Other than that, we're gearing up for our usual two weeks off over Christmas break and I look forward to it each year. I'm ready for cute sweatpants (btw, has anyone spotted Christmas themed ones?), gluten free shortbread, vegan eggnog and alllll the Hallmark Christmas movies + snowy walks through our historic town. It's the coziest time of year and I'm SO ready! Fun fact, when I wrote G&C back in the day... I used to daydream of one day moving to a truly historic & old timey town. We briefly moved to Port Moody, which certainly had some historic parts, but the majority of it was new and modern. Fast forward to today, and I'm so thrilled we are living out our cozy and quaint dream - a reality I'm so grateful for each day.
As for my outfit?! I love, love this outfit so much. I love wearing my dad sneaks with my ribcage jeans for errands, and who can resist a cat mom tee paired with an oversized blazer, am I right?! It's such a fun and effortless look and so comfy too. Hoping to pop in with one or two more looks before the year is up and share photos from the tree farm. We go every year and it's such a fun tradition. Thanks so much for reading, friends, and let me know what you're looking forward to the most this holiday season too! xo

How to Style a Mini Skirt When the Leaves are Turning

Hellooo, friends! My gosh, I just spent the last 30+ minutes troubleshooting my Blogger account. It wouldn't let me sign in! Phew, but I'm back, and so relieved. Not me thinking... I'd never get into my blog again. What's that? You're wondering if I'm dramatic?! I see you know me well! ;) What's that game, "Two Truths and a Lie"? Ok, I've never lay in front of my closet, wept, and muttered dramatically, "I have nothing to wear," then collapsed in front of it. Any guesses? Haha.
In other news, I did a thing. I booked a bang trim, or in my case, a full-on bang cut. Eeeee, the bangs are back! I’m hovering somewhere between feeling like I’m onto something brilliant (hi, channeling my inner Zooey Deschannel) or having a mini mid-life crisis. But honestly? Who cares, I'm having fun and that is the entire point of personal style. If you love it, then rock it! I used to think that aging meant following a set of invisible rules, but now that I'm wayyyy older (any guesses?) I know that personal style is about wearing whatever the heck you want. Will I be wearing a cat print midi skirt at 70? Um yes, yes I will.
As for my outfit? I had so much fun styling my new corduroy mini skirt. It's been yearsss since I've worn a mini, I'm usually a midi length girl, but I loved wearing a shorter skirt so much. And if you're looking for tips on how to wear a mini skirt in the fall/winter? I'd definitley recommend picking a heavier fabric in autumnal hues and pairing it with tights, tall boots, or booties. It's such a fun look and I can't wait to style her again. I'm thinking stripes, or prints next time, and maybe a vintage coat. I just bought two STUNNING ones and I can't wait to share those with you!

PS - drop me a comment and let me know what items you're adding to your closet!

Sometimes You Forge Ahead and It's Delightful

If you've been reading the blog for a while? You know I keep it pretty candid around here! So when I tell you, it was just one of those days?... It was, one of those days! The closet was raring to go. The girl? Not so much. I was horribly underslept, it was a very dark morning (aka not photography friendly) - but I'm so glad I didn't throw in the towel. The photos turned out beautifully regardless of the obstacles! I love the grain, deep shadows and soft vintage / cinematic feel. A good reminder that creative moments aren't born from perfection; sometimes, they're born from perseverance. So let this serve as a reminder to show up and stay open in your creative process. You just might surprise yourself, and that's, a truly wonderful thing!
And... let's take a moment for the star of the show, yes?! My gorgeous vintage scarf. I've typically shied away from silk scarves for the most part (maybe they've felt too mature?), however I'd love to start adding them to my outfits again. I'd love to wear one around my neck with a simple vintage sweater, tied to a bag, or even as a belt. For this look? I kept the styling pretty simple and wore my beloved ribcage bell Levi's jeans and a bodysuit I bought from H&Myearsss ago. Oh and my Jeffrey Campbell wedge sandals. They're 10+ years old and soon they'll be vintage. Definitely never letting go of those!
Welp, that's about it, friends. Thank you for all your sweet DM's on the Girl & Closet reboot. I'm SO excited to hear you're excited too. Even Martin (my husband, if you're new here) let out a squeal & yay when I'm told him the news. Aww, babe, you ole' softie! Until next week friends! xo

First Official OOTD Feels Like Coming Home!

Nov 3, 2025

On January 13, 2011 I opened a blogger account and launched Girl & Closet. I was working from home and desperately needed a creative outlet, and a reason to get dressed. Little did I know, my life and career path would change forever. G&C quickly became my main source of income and it was the most wonderful adventure. I'm forever grateful! Cut to, 9 years later, and I'm "home again"! Walking through the proverbial G&C doors and ready to show up. But, there's a catch, my life looks very different now. I live with an invisible disability, CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), and MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome). You wouldn't know it, if you met me. But I know it - a long chat, can mean drained batteries and bed rest. That gorgeous autumn walk and lunch with friends can cause an intense MCAS flare. The list goes on! What is normal living for most, leaves me drained and like I just ran a marathon. It's a lot. But I do my best to stay positive, and I stay honest with myself and the people around me... instead of constantly pushing through.
But, in spite of all that, I still want to figure out how to show up. How to show up for my creative self and have fun again. So here we are, same girl, but with a slightly larger closet, asking herself... what should she wear? And of course, I can't wait to share that journey with you. Anyway, enough of the big stuff. Let's chat fashion, yeah?! For my first, official, G&C outfit... I wanted something lively, and this was SO it. I know it's simple, but a pop of lippy and a red beret can make all the difference! For my top layer? I ended up adding my beloved trench coat - but I'm desperately trying to find the perfect vintage coat. Fingers crossed! My closet & I can't wait to meet her!
Lastly, this post wouldn't be complete without a look back at my first post "Silly Face" - a real gal, sharing real style! And naturally, I had to take my photos indoors too. That's where it all started after all! Can't wait to see you in the next one, friends! xo

And in the meantime, be sure to subscribe to my blog here! With blog reader websites coming & going these days, I'd hate to lose touch!

The Girl & Closet Reboot!

Oct 22, 2025

Girl & Closet RebootFriends, oh my goodness, it’s been years since I last posted here! And if you’re one of the original followers from my OG Girl & Closet days - thank you for sticking around! I can’t even begin to tell you how much I've missed talking about curating a fun wardrobe, sharing life bits and fur fam adventures.

But life, as it so often does, took an unexpected detour.

For the past several years, my focus hasn’t been on finding the perfect midi skirt or dreaming up the perfect photo-shoot (though I've tried here & there). Instead, my energy has been spent on navigating the complex, often invisible, world of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).

The original Girl & Closet blog was vibrant, energetic, and full of wonderful content that I'm so incredibly proud of. I was constantly chasing all the style inspo and remixing my little heart away. But the truth is, with my current health issues that just isn't sustainable for me anymore.

Living with CFS means that every decision, even choosing an outfit, is an energy transaction. Is that elaborate outfit worth the fatigue it will cause by the end of the day? Will those heeled boots make it difficult to walk our doggo tomorrow? My closet used to be my playground; now, it’s a more deliberate space where comfort and mindfulness are top of mind.

MCAS adds another layer of complexity. Sudden allergic reactions mean I have to be incredibly careful about fabrics, dyes, and even laundry detergent. My body has a list of "no-go" materials, and ignoring it isn't an option. The wrong fabric can trigger an hours-long flare, turning a dress into a major liability.

Introducing Girl & Closet 2.0

So, why come back now? Because even when your world shrinks, your creativity doesn't have to. I've come to realize I'm not ready to abandon my love for self-expression and I'm actually excited to get back to my style roots - but also, radically redefine what that looks like.

This journey is just beginning. It’s a big project to tackle, especially when you have to pace yourself through it. But I’m excited to have you here - whether you’re a fellow CFS or MCAS warrior, navigating another chronic illness, or just someone looking for a more intentional, gentle way to approach style. Welcome back to the Girl & Closet blog, rebooted! xo

Tell me, friends. What is one piece of clothing you own that you absolutely love for its comfort? Let me know in the comments!
