Wintertime Loft Gathering

Feb 1, 2013

Hello and happy Friday everyone! I'm pretty darn excited for the weekend. It's been a busy work week + I've been missing my hubby time. I'll definitley be making up for it this weekend though. Waffles, walks, and lots of fireside naps are absolutely in my future. Yes! What's your plan for the weekend?!...

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of co-hosting a blogger gathering with my pal Lynn of Hearted Girl. I loved catching up with the girls and I hope to organize a city dinner next. Perhaps something in March. I must say, the Vancouver blogging community is so warm & welcoming. I feel very lucky to be part of such a fabulous group of women. We even Skyped in our beloved Cee of Coco & Vera (a Vancouver regular) who recently moved to Paris. A big thank you to Lynn for being the world's most fabulous host, and to all the girls who made it down that day! xo

Sunday Afternoon, Blogger Meet-up!

Jul 24, 2012

Last Sunday, I met up with some of my favourite gals for a mid afternoon blogger meet-up. Yay, it was so much fun! We met at Cee's city condo, swapped back some of our clothes, nibbled on desserts + drank sparkling water... perfect for me, as I'm trying to be super disciplined and not drink any alcohol. Go me!! ;) Anywho, here are some quick little snaps from our day. I wore my polka dot pencil skirt, which seems to be on constant rotation at the moment - it's become my fave summer staple!
Every time I see the girls, I'm reminded of what wonderful friendships we have grown. It's moments like this, that I'm so happy for my blog! I remember when I first discovered fashion blogs, I excitedly shrieked out to Martin: "Oh my gosh, look, these girls post about their outfits... ah, they even get together for blogger meet-ups." Haha, yup I was hooked, funnest thing ever! What got you guys into fashion blogging?!
Other than that, I just celebrated my birthday this past weekend. Gulp, another year older, but in all honesty, I've never been too bothered about aging/getting older. I'm so excited for this upcoming year and it feels like so many exciting changes are taking place. I've been working hard on getting healthy, reviewing my career goals... and Martin & I are hoping to start a family soon. So, that's huge! I'm also excited to slow things down a bit. I tend to be such a workaholic - often loosing sight of just living & having fun. So cheers, to getting older and hopefully smarter. ;)

Look Book: Yellow Hues, Blue Skies & An Event!!

A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending an event in the city hosted by "The Bay," Canada's leading department store. So fun!! I was pretty darn excited to go because it meant getting off work early - yes! I usually work 12/14 hours a day, which is fine... I sincerely love what I do but this was such a nice treat. I previewed upcoming spring/summer trends, chatted with my favourite local bloggers and sipped champagne - a truly lovely evening!!
Yay! I was thrilled to finally meet Monika of the The Doctors Closet, and Chelle of Discovering Elegance - such sweet gals! And (of course!) my usual fashion blogging buddies too: Alicia, Randa, Leonie, Mena & Jen. What about you guys? Do you attend fashion events within in your own city?! It was something that was discussed at this year's TXSC conference and something I'm trying to do a little more of - besides, they had me at champagne! ;)
As for my own look?! I opted for colour. Yellow seems to be such a fun & popular hue this spring and I can see why - it's an instant pick me up! Otherwise, I kept it simple with a grey cardigan and threw in my gold Coach bag for a little extra glamour + my new Jeffrey Campbell wedges, which I promise to not wear in every single post, haha! Have a great day guys. xo veronika

I was beyond excited to head into the city (any excuse to dress up, right?!) and meet up with my blogger friends for dinner & super yummy champagne. We were all there to toast our friend Alex of "To Vogue or Bust" on her internship at Toronto's FASHION magazine. Yay!! And oh my, it was such a beautiful evening to be out: late evening sun, cherry blossoms, and the most deliciously sweet smelling air. Ah, I've been in a perpetually fabulous mood!!
Earlier in the day, I took myself shopping and picked up this adorable H&M dress for our blogger dinner. I had so much fun... I visited Zara, Forever21, Banana Republic, Coach, and stocked up on make-up at Sephora. I was pretty overwhelmed by all the gorgeous spring items... mint hued lace, bold stripes, patent leather sandals and statement necklaces galore. Sigh. Let's just say my wish list is now ridiculously huge! ;)

Well today I'm busy, busy... I'm excitedly working on several new jewelry pieces for the online store. This past week I've been taking a wire wrapping course and learning a ton of new techniques, which has been loads of fun! I have so many wonderful ideas for the future and I can't wait to see the store grow - it's a creative project that I'm really excited to be working on. Alright friends, I'm off to plan my outfit for tonight's event at The Bay downtown, where I'll be previewing their spring collection and catching up with my favourite bloggers. Happy Thursday! xo veronika

TxSC: Blowfish Breakfast, Conference & What I Learned!!

Mar 22, 2012

For my final day in Austin, Texas, I attended a super fun & laid back breakfast with Amy and Elise, both of whom work for Blowfish and were an absolute dream to meet, along with my dear friend Jenni of Story of My Life, and Elizabeth of Delightfully Tacky. Yay! My overall impression of the blogging community?! The nicest people you will ever meet!! I couldn't have felt more at home! :)
(Left to right: Elizabeth, Jenni, Amy, Roxy, Lauren, and Tieka below!)
I then headed to the conference. This year's theme was thinking beyond your blog, and recognizing that not everyone wants to be a full-time blogger. Most bloggers have full-time jobs and choose to document their outfits/lives because it's such an inspiring community. The conference also focused on bringing the most authentic you to your blog, allowing yourself to dream, and creating genuine connections with your readers, or customers if you are a small boutique owner. I absolutely love that point of view on blogging!
(Left to right: Diya, Veronika, Julie, Kristina and below: J, Jen, Elizabeth, Kyla)
Kendi delivered a strong & inspiring message during her keynote speech: realizing your purpose is much greater than your blog, and you have the ability to make it whatever you want it to be! We are all on a path and no two paths look the same, and that's OK. We are here to find our own unique voice, point of view, and connect with a life that's authentic and reflects our passions. Kendi challenged us to dream bigger, to dream beyond our blogs! One of my favourite quotes from her was, "Comparison is the thief of joy!" It's not about what everyone else is doing... it's about what you want to be doing!
Well that's a wrap, guys! I can't stress enough how inspiring it was to hear so many bloggers talk about their journey. For me, this conference couldn't have come at a better time. I feel armed with loads of inspiration and I look forward to sharing it all with you on the blog. Lastly, be sure to take a peek at the video - this was one of my favourite panel discussions. Happy blogging everyone! xo

TxSC Speed Mentoring Breakfast!!

Mar 19, 2012

Hello, friends! It's been such a crazy & whirlwind week. I was hoping to get to my TxSC recaps sooner, but Martin (my hubby) ended up getting rushed to the hospital late last week. He lost consciousness several times and is now recovering from a serious viral infection. Ugh, what a week! Let's take a look back at the Texas Style Council Conference, shall we?! On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the speed mentoring breakfast. I loved mingling with my favourite bloggers and learning from their blogging experiences!
Once we got settled and enjoyed some super tasty breakfast tacos, we then walked around and chit chatted with any blogger of our choice. Each blogger was there to represent a certain topic. I had the chance to talk to Jen of Jen Loves Kev about blogger burn-out, a topic that was discussed a lot at the conference; life & blog balance is absolutely something I've struggled with at times. It's easy to get wrapped up in all that you have to do, but we need to learn to cut ourselves some slack. The sky will not fall if you don't get to a post or answer all of your emails/comments on a given day!
After a fabulous morning of networking, I headed down to South Congress with some of the girls for an afternoon of city tromping & vintage browsing. I'll be honest, I was kind of geeking out... I felt like I had to pinch myself - was I really shopping with a handful of my favourite fashion bloggers?! Eee! The afternoon ended with a visit to a fantastic Mexican restaurant (Austin has the best food!!) and some super tasty tequila, which was absolutely the perfect way to unwind! I'll see you guys for my final Austin re-cap this Thursday and share a more in-depth review of what I learned!

Look Book: TxSC Clothing Swap!!

Yay, I’m back! I had such an amazing time at the Texas Style Council and I can't wait to share all my favourite re-caps with you guys. For my first night out, I attended the annual swap, which was hosted by swap.com & Lulu's. I absolutely loved visiting the Lulu's lounge - each blogger was lucky enough to receive a complimentary item, and I nabbed the cutest BB Dakota dress. Score!
As for the outfit? It was totally unplanned & very last minute. It was cold and rainy when I arrived in Austin, so all of my pre-styled outfits kind of went out the window. I chose something a little bit more laid back & comfy as I spent a fair bit of my day site seeing, but still chic for the party. I had a lot of people/press ask to take pictures of my look, which was a nice vote of confidence.
I was thrilled to finally meet so many of the ladies that I have connected with this past year, some of whom are pictured here: Kyla, Tieka and Jen. It's such a surreal experience because you feel like you know everyone super well, but yet you've never met face to face. Everyone was as sweet & kind as they are on their blogs and amazingly stylish. I felt so welcome, plus the venue was perfectly intimate, the ideal spot for kicking back & chatting!

Alright, guys! I'll see you for a few more re-caps next week. Also, I've extended the Blowfish giveaway for one more day (yay!), so if you haven't entered yet, now's your chance! Happy Wednesday, friends! xo veronika
