But life, as it so often does, took an unexpected detour.
For the past several years, my focus hasn’t been on finding the perfect midi skirt or dreaming up the perfect photo-shoot (though I've tried here & there). Instead, my energy has been spent on navigating the complex, often invisible, world of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).
The original Girl & Closet blog was vibrant, energetic, and full of wonderful content that I'm so incredibly proud of. I was constantly chasing all the style inspo and remixing my little heart away. But the truth is, with my current health issues that just isn't sustainable for me anymore.
Living with CFS means that every decision, even choosing an outfit, is an energy transaction. Is that elaborate outfit worth the fatigue it will cause by the end of the day? Will those heeled boots make it difficult to walk our doggo tomorrow? My closet used to be my playground; now, it’s a more deliberate space where comfort and mindfulness are top of mind.
MCAS adds another layer of complexity. Sudden allergic reactions mean I have to be incredibly careful about fabrics, dyes, and even laundry detergent. My body has a list of "no-go" materials, and ignoring it isn't an option. The wrong fabric can trigger an hours-long flare, turning a dress into a major liability.
Introducing Girl & Closet 2.0
This journey is just beginning. It’s a big project to tackle, especially when you have to pace yourself through it. But I’m excited to have you here - whether you’re a fellow CFS or MCAS warrior, navigating another chronic illness, or just someone looking for a more intentional, gentle way to approach style. Welcome back to the Girl & Closet blog, rebooted! xo
