Can you believe this was my first year going to an apple orchard?! We had so much fun! I originally wanted to bring our sweet little pup, Ms. Poppy, and in an apple sweater no less. But in the end, I'm glad we left her at home. I'm quite certain we would have been overwhelmed taking photos and "trying" to keep an eye on our pup. Knowing Poppy, she'd be running to meet & greet, well, pretty much everyone. She loves the people, and the kids. Other dogs... not so much. Haha!
This year, I'm delighted to say, we've gotten such a wonderful jump start on our autumnal festivities. For my first apple picking experience... I decided on The Apple Barn at Taves Family Farms. It's one of my all time favourites (we've gone there for their pumpkin patch in previous years), and their apples were delicious. We chose to take one of their smaller bags home and I loved having apples to snack on throughout the week + we ended up making the most delicious apple crisp. Excited to have two things checked off my Fall Bucket List. Whoo-hoo!
While there, we also walked by the pumpkin patch (how could we not!), grabbed mini apple cider donuts, visited the goats, and relaxed at Taves Estate Cidery as well. Oh my gosh! The cidery was so charming & idyllic, and I'd love to go again this fall in a cozy coat and a gorgeous pair of J.Crew boots. Why yes, I'm 100% that girl that's always dreaming up all the outfits. Haha! It's half the fun.
As for my apple picking outfit? I wore my new J.Crew dress, which I love. It's so flattering, the colours are so autumnal and I can't wait to wear it again in cooler months paired with this blazer and a pair of booties. My sandals are Steve Madden and ultra comfy, though next year, I'd love to add these to my wardrobe - such a great Hermes dupe. Lastly, my sunglasses are Chanel and they're a new buy. Haven't done an unboxing yet... but perhaps that's something I can put on the docket if you'd be interested! xo

Shop My Outfit:
For our wedding anniversary... Martin & I decided to venture out to Cammidge House where we were married 11 years ago. Unfortunately it rained for most of the day but we still managed to get a few photos between breaks + I'm a trooper when it comes to taking photos. If you haven't been to Cammidge House before? I highly recommend a peek around. Or better yet, you might want to consider it as a possible venue. It's a 100 year old historic house situated in the midst of farm land and right beside Boundary Bay. We loved having our wedding there!
We kept things pretty simple & low key for our anniversary celebration, which is honestly, my favourite! We started the day with a drive through all the near by farmland (I'm certain, I took a ridiculous amount of red barn photos, haha) then we visited our original wedding venue, snapped photos, walked to Boundary Bay and reminisced about all our favourite wedding moments. My fave moment? Was definitely when Martin saw me in my wedding dress for the first time and got misty eyed. Aw!
After that we headed to a local pub called the Rusty Anchor, it was so charming & rustic. The inside looked like a boat with wood planking and lanterns, and it's situated right beside the dock. I had their vegetarian quesadilla and Martin ordered their prawn tacos + we shared my favourite... beer & clamato juice. I don't know why, but I'm hooked, it's so, so good and super refreshing! Also, cute alert, while we were chomping our food, they played one of our wedding songs -- which was amazing and pretty much made our day!

This is my second "adventure" post this summer and I've honestly missed them so much. Going on day trips, exploring & taking photos is hands down my most favourite thing and I'm typically grinning like a fool for all of it! In fact, I just started a new category in my top navigation menu called "trips" and I can't wait to fill it with our summer and fall memories. If there's one thing my health issues have taught me... it's to seize the day and do what you love!
So for this fall? I'll be doing exactly that! I've started booking trips, styling cozy & fall hued outfits, and I can't wait to make this space the best it's ever been. I'm honestly feeling a little giddy lately and like I've had a new lease on life. It feels good, so good!
Also, can you believe we're in the final stretch of summer? I hope to make the most of the next four weeks though. I'm still hoping to spend a day by our pool, visit a lighthouse & historic town, take a day trip to Cultus Lake and visit one of our neighbouring islands. Fingers crossed we'll get through our summer list! As for this past weekend?! We ventured to Rocky Point Ice Cream, which is located steps from the pier, includes hiking trails, bike trails and a skate park. In fact, many moons ago, Martin & I photographed a look at the skate park "Graffiti Walls" -- haha so funny looking back. Have a great week everyone! xo

So for this fall? I'll be doing exactly that! I've started booking trips, styling cozy & fall hued outfits, and I can't wait to make this space the best it's ever been. I'm honestly feeling a little giddy lately and like I've had a new lease on life. It feels good, so good!

Several weeks ago, Martin & I met up with my mom and explored Clayburn Village, BC's first working town. In a word? Love, so much love! It's such an adorable and charming spot + I'm excited to visit again this summer. My parents bought a home not far from there and I'm thrilled it's just a hop, skip, jump for us! Also you may have read in my last post that life is a little nuts right now, but later this summer, Martin & I are taking two months off and I can't wait to go on countless trips and share them with you!
First up, is the The Village Store which was built in 1912 and sold everything from groceries to life insurance. It also served an important function as a neighbourly gathering spot! Today, it's been lovingly restored and continues to serve the community as a store, tea room, confectionery and deli. Then it was off to Clayburn School which was built in 1907-1908. The school features banked windows for abundant natural light and the surroundings couldn't be more idyllic. Originally it was built as a one-room schoolhouse, however soon after it was enlarged and in 1925 a basement was added, along with plumbed washrooms. The last year of classes was 1983. Then in 1991 it was purchased by the Clayburn Village Society and now features artifacts & photos, and acts as an informal museum.
I also fell head-over-heels for Clayburn church. Interestingly, the church differs from other brick structures in the Village both in its traditional style of architecture and construction. The walls of the building are formed by two independently stretcher laid walls with a four-inch space between, typically this type of construction was most common in Britain. In 1978, Clayburn Church was restored by the MSA Heritage Society and is now a protected provincial heritage site. Thanks for reading! xo

Add a historic train station to your outfit, and what do you get? An instant nod to vintage inspired style, am I right?! Martin & I had such a blast visiting our favourite museum just a few days ago, because guys, this is where Girl & Closet began! Five years ago, my love & I decided to move to an adorable historic town (we've since moved, sigh) and shortly there after I discovered blogs and started my own. In fact, when we were driving around I couldn't stop reminiscing... we spotted so many old haunts & locations, I remembered back to countless outfits and amazing memories. Oh man, I'm such a sucker for nostalgia!
So this past weekend, I also ordered my newest "dress crush" -- how pretty, right?! After one too many seasons of neutrals, I'm ready to break out and start adding more colour to my life. One of my big "closet" goals for 2016 is to get back to my vintage roots and start having more fun with fashion. I miss the whimsy, the fun of trying the unexpected and challenging myself to break out of the norm!
Then this Thursday, Martin & I are heading into the city for a fun blogger & media event at Blubird which is being hosted by Erin, of Sparkle Media. Can't wait! We'll be meeting designer Elena Ghisellini and I'll be sure to share photos with you next week. Now, what to wear?! ;) Haha, have a great week, friends!! xo
