Thoughts On Blogging

Dec 6, 2012

Lately, I find myself thinking about the blog, my goals and where I'd like to see the blog in 2013. I've toyed here & there with the idea of starting a new blog (something more lifestyle related) but somehow that didn't sit right + I'd be pretty devastated not connecting with all of you guys here. Having said that though, after almost two years of documenting my outfits, I feel like I'm ready for a change. I don't think I'll ever let go of style posts completely, they just won't be the heart of the blog anymore.

My life & priorities have changed a lot since starting the blog. In the beginning, I missed having an outlet for fashion and I loved spending my weekends planning outfit photo shoots, scouting for locations, thrifting + styling outfits. But since then, a lot has changed. Most weekends, you'll find me in skinnies and a top knot (haha) visiting friends and spending time with family, or trying out new vegetarian recipes with my honey. So, I'd like to blog more about that! I'll admit, I don't have it all figured out yet but I'm excited for a new and more authentic future.

On that note, I'll be taking a break from accepting sponsorship as well. Although it feels scary, it's something I've thought long and hard about. I wholeheartedly adore my sponsors, but I'm yearning to free up my time and spend it doing the things I'm passionate about. Like, work on my jewelry and grow my online shop. As a side note... I'll still include affiliate links on the blog and accept (very occasional) c/o items from companies I feel passionately about; however, I will be phasing out all banner ads. I'm excited to get back to posting at my own pace, and without the feeling of looming deadlines or the pressure to post on a given day. If I can't post in a given week? Hey, no big deal - the sky will not fall. ;)

I think that pretty much sums it up for now. I wasn't even sure if I should write this post or just make the changes... but I felt like I wanted to share and invite you guys into my process. If you have any questions, ask away! I just switched over to a new commenting system, so now I'll able to respond to your questions directly on the blog. Lastly, BIG hugs to you all. You're all such amazing readers and many of you have become such dear friends. Thank you for your awesome and continued support. I'm excited for the future!

  3. Blogging is like everything else in life, I think - if you don't love it, then it's not worth doing; if you have the power to change it to make the experience better, then that's what you should do. I'm so lookinh forward to reading along on this journey with you, V! Big hugs.

  6. I'm really excited to see where your blog goes in 2013. As mentioned before, I absolutely adore your style, but it was more of your writing style and sweet personality that keeps me here as a reader. Whatever you do, you'll always have my support! :) I'm excited!!

  8. I'm glad you wrote this post. To be honest, I'm losing interest in blogs that post only, or primarily, outfits. I want to know more about them because I know it's more than just the one thing that makes them tick and get up in the morning. So I'm excited for all that you have to share and the changes you are making!

  9. Although I follow a few "fashion" blogs, my favourite posts are always the ones that are more personal. I love peeking into people's lives and getting to know them more. So, I'm excited for you! :) Your posts about what you did on the weekend are always my favourites.

  24. I think it's awesome what you are doing! I feel that it's great to be able to blog about anything you want, I mean sure, you probably started as only a fashion blog but your life is so much more than that and why not share it with your followers? They take the time to read your posts and in my case, it's awesome to get a glimpse of your fellow bloggers life on the blog and behind the scenes as well.
I don't have even the slightest amount of popularity as your blog does, but I feel that it gives me more of an advantage to blogging about whatever I wish to. Who says you should only write about or post pictures about Fashion?! It is YOUR blog and if your followers are true, they will still want to know about the real you and your life. So I can't wait to see what exciting posts you let us in on and I wish you all the best in this new year!

  25. I'm SO excited about this!!! In all honesty, I've just kind of been a "blog when I have time to" kind of gal since the beginning and I've tapered in both style + lifestyle posting. I'm honestly so happy I took that route because I can go back years in my archives and read about what I was up to. It's truly amazing! I'm so excited to read about your life and I think it's so courageous of you to have stopped sponsorships ect. YOU ROCK.

  32. I admire this post and making the decision to do what you're comfortable with and at your own pace. I'm a new blogger so I never knew that all this sponsorship stuff could take up so much time and stress!! I've been a huge fan of your blog, and I'm so excited to see how it'll continue to evolve over the years! You're doing fantastic, and I love all your posts

  40. oh lovie, the way you've opened up and poured these thought processes out is an achievement all on its own! total wordsmith styles V, uber proud to know you and i honor + support everything you do. the way i feel is this: "the heart of the blog" has ALWAYS been you!! no matter how you convey your message or what images are featured in the latest post, it's still based off your amazing charisma, class act formula and magnetic charm. as you grow into this new contemporary territory featuring an authenticated tapestry of lifestyled shares i believe the future forecast is filled with bright spots! can't wait to watch this unfold as you continue to unleash amazing feats in fashion + SO MUCH MORE!!!!

thanks for your last message too; our chat was epic and the time went by in a snap. i'm so happy you'll be co-hosting the winterized blogger fete with me :) i went right out and told Sean about the end of our convo....um, hi happiness - let the inspiration pinning board mayhem begin. he laughed so hard! total told-ya-so moment is what. baha! blog banner?? hit me up, although i really love the new little addition at the tippy top you've added on, super sweet!! happy weekend V, give a kiss-kiss to the fur babies and a solid high fiver to Martin. speak soon...xo ♥

  41. I completely support you in this! I am going through somewhat of the same change - if our blogs aren't reflecting us and our lifestyle/what we do, then what is the point of having one? Go for it!

  42. Veronika, I have been reading your blog since day one. You have always been (and still will be) such a breath of fresh air for the blogosphere. You are positive and kind while also being realistic and personal with your readers. You're not afraid to share things that are bothersome while at the same time wanting to share your happiness.

I think this is SO important and also extremely rare. Some blogs seem fake because they're so obsessed with sunshine and rainbows all the time. You seem like a genuine FRIEND to everyone and not just a 'famous blogger' for people to 'follow' and worship. I think that's exactly why you've been so successful and why you have people who will continue to support you in all of your endeavors, including myself.

I'm extremely happy and proud of you that you're making these decisions for yourself and jumping in head first to what YOU want to do. And whatever you decide to do next, I know you'll do it well.

Hugs right back at you, lady.

  46. I don't think I've ever commented on your blog, but I read and enjoy every post. I look forward to seeing where the new direction will take you. It sounds as if it will make for wonderful reading, and similar to what I aim for on my own blog. It's good to be authentic and stay true to what you enjoy, and I love getting a little insight into a blogger's life. It can be very inspiring.

Good luck taking the leap :)

I had this happen to my blog, Tinda Keelie, last year... and then I happened to get pregnant, started my career, and moved all within a period of 4 months and lost touch with my blog all-together. Now it's called This Love and reflects more of what my life is about. Best of luck with your transition! I look forward to reading onward into 2013!
