Quiet Nights

Nov 12, 2012

There's nothing better than an outfit that comes together easily & effortlessly, and that was the case for this little number, which I absolutely love! Pencil skirts have become such a staple piece in my wardrobe this fall. I'm eying several more from J.Crew (adore that store)... I'd love to add a mustard one, tweed one and a floral print would be fantastic too. Does anyone have experience with J.Crew pencil skirts? Do you know if they fit small or large?!

Well, today is day four of our long weekend. Martin & I are taking advantage of the extra time off and doing a major condo clean. And since it's turned absolutely bone chilling cold outside, we'll be spending a quiet night in. I'm making a tofu peanut stir fry, turning on the fireplace and renting a romantic comedy. Yay for home nights in!

As for this week?! I've got a fun post planned for later on. I'll be sharing some info on our condo re-style, as well as sharing my inspiration board. And I may also consider doing my next outfit post from the great & warm indoors, because guys, it was so cold out when we shot these. For anyone that's still enjoying warm weather... I'm jealous! ;)

Outfit Details:

Scarf - H&M
Sweater - Club Monaco
Belt - ModCloth
Skirt - RW (similar)
Bracelet - c/o Bip & Bop
Tights for Every Occasion, Black - ModCloth
Heels - Aldo (similar)

  4. I can seriously sympathise with the desire to start taking photos indoors, Veronika - I nearly froze taking outdoor snaps yesterday, but I just kept telling myself that the gorgeous fall colours outside were worth it! Of course I know you'll look gorgeous indoors our out. I'm loving how you spiced up this classic chic ensemble with a bright scarf. And I'm just loving the super deep navy shade of your sweater, it's gorgeous!

  13. What a great pencil skirt - it seriously fits you like a glove. And your evening in sounds delightful. It got seriously cold here in Edmonton as well so I'm planning on spending a lot of evenings in.

  17. You can do no wrong with a pencil skirt. I've been reluctant to buy one because I'm more of jeans gal but they definitely won me over and I cant wait to purchase a pencil skirt. m thinking on starting with a black or grey one.

  24. total class lades, this is such a marvelous look on you and i am extra loving the long, lean silhouette that pencil skirt brings to the fashion table. pairing your patterned scarf creates an individual flare that is SO signature G&C!! total fan - you know the absolute right way to blend; taking a quiet outfit and turning the volume up just the right amount.

happy day 4 of your weekend together lovie. it's a good day to cuddle up tight after the big house clean and keep warmest in Martin's arms. i can't tell you how awesome it was to hang out yesterday, we're living off the good vibes you guys brought. it was really the greatest visit i'd had with a gf in a long time. i'm scoping out Dec dates and will shoot you an email soon to coordinate. much loves & a big kiss to Scout - he was such a trooper & did well when faced with Mylo's arched cat attack. baha! xo ♥

  33. I'm so jealous of people who don't have cold Winters at the moment. It is freezing round here at the moment. It is perfect weather for nights in though, I've spend quite a lot of evenings baking recently, it's nice to have warm biscuits and I it heats up our kitchen wonderfully xo

  37. Yummm ... that stir fry sounds delish. Good to know that I am not the only one whose days sometimes revolve around the evening meal plan ... esp. when I have an extra yummy dish I am planning to cook!

I had to laugh at the "bone chill" comment ... I've been dipping my toe in the fashion blogging world lately and, just this morning did a style shoot and it was so cold and windy! In some of the pictures I am actually frowning (unintentionally) but trying to grin and bear it. The worst part, I know that this is just the tip of the iceberg, so to speak ... the snow will come (cue ominous da-da-daaaaaa now)

    Sending warm thoughts your way!!!

    xo.

ps. Hope you had an awesome visit with Lynn ... love that girl!!!!

  40. Very pretty! I love pencil skirts but they don't work with my shape. Maybe take a trip to the J.Crew on Robson, try a few on and see how they fit? I haven't tried any on personally.

And yes, it is COLD outside! xo

  41. I've been thinking about taking my photos inside too, although I dread it with my little point and shoot. It's so cold here too, and snowy already!

I love J.Crew pencil skirts too, but honestly I have tried them on over and over and they just will not fit me. I'm pretty petite, and even their smallest size sits away from my body, not tight how it should. I do think they run big. Such a bummer! I've been able to find a few at H&M and Forever 21. Lesser quality but smaller sizing. Just my two cents! :)

  43. I only own one thing that is J. Crew (hurrah to the broke! haha) and it's a cardigan, so I can't help you on that one! :(

Other than that, you look amazing! I love effortless outfits like this as well. I've thrown a ton of them together lately and I'm like, well, it feels easier to get dressed now that I don't have a style blog anymore.. lol!

Mmm tofu peanut stir fry sounds amazing! Recipe recipe recipe! Please?

  47. Yeah, I don't know what I'm going to do once winter kicks in - I do NOT wanna go outdoors to get photos! But unfortunately, our home isn't the most interior decorated...it's pretty mismatched and not very attractive...aha.
Anyway, sounds like a lovely night in! :)
And you certainly can rock the pencil skirts Veronika. Love the scarf you added to this outfit.
OoooOoooo, I was just thinking how nice it'd be to own a mustard skirt. If you get one, I want to see an outfit post on it :D

  51. Pencil skirts are such workhorses in my closet too! I would love to add a gray one (like your pretty little number) and a leather one to my closet. I have a couple of J.Crew ones, and I find them to fit a little larger (especially the ones from the J.Crew factory)
